Marley & Blue is a brand new local coffee shop targeted at young professionals in Port Harcourt. They requested a clean, minimal logo with a grey African parrot mascot and a coffee bean.

Marley & Blue is a brand new local coffee shop targeted at young professionals in Port Harcourt. They requested a clean, minimal logo with a grey African parrot mascot and a coffee bean.
Approach
In creating the mark for Markey & Blue, we took inspiration from coffee seeds, coffee cup, ampersand sign, and an African grey parrot. The parrot was created using the shape of an ampersand “&” with a coffee bean in place of the parrot’s eye. The use of the ampersand to create the entire body of the parrot allows it play multiple roles – mascot, ampersand, and mark.

We customized the font Adam. CG Pro, an all caps, san-serif typeface, creating an uppercase typeface that is utilized comprehensively on all the marketing materials, visual communication and packaging. Each letter features a curved edge which is adapted from the curved wing of the African grey parrot mark.
The colors are also adapted from the African grey parrot, which sports a distinctively red tail, a grey body and a steel blue overlay. The color compliments the identity and is used to depict temperature on the cup sleeves.
